Gayle
fell in
love
with
Sailors'
Valentines
a number
of years
ago
after
seeing
them at
a
gallery
on
Martha's
Vineyard.
Her love
for the
ocean,
beach
and
color
has
taken
her from
a career
in
fashion
and
costume
design
to the
art of
making
Sailors'
Valentines.
She
moved to
Cape Cod
in the
1960s
having
lived in
Toronto,
Canada.
Ms.
Condit
attended
Ryerson
Polytechnical
Institute,
where
she
studied
fashion
design.
Gayle's
designs
are
unique.
She
often
uses
antique
lace in
the
centers
and
incorporates
ideas
from
traditional
work.
The sea
shells
she uses
to
construct
fashion
pieces
of
exquisite
beauty
and
detail
are all
natural.
Her
Valentines
are
heirloom
quality
pieces
of art
and
adorn
homes on
Cape
Cod,
Nantucket
and Long
Island.
Gayle
has
craftsmen
from
Nantucket,
Florida
and
Texas
construct
her
valentine
boxes
using
different
kinds of
exotic
and
traditional
hard
woods.
The
boxes
are
given a
hand-rubbed
finish.
Gayle
will
be offering
classes
at the
Creative
Arts
Center
of
Chatham,
in late
January
(date to
be
announced
and at
the Cape
Cod Art
Assoc.
Rte 6A
Barnstable
the week
end of
November
7th.
Please

Gayle
regarding
these

in the

2007

Magazine,

entitled
"Celebrating
Cape Cod
Women".

has also
been
featurered
on NECN. Gayle's
Traditional
Sailors
Valentine placed
